I love a one-way ticket.

The trip becomes less of a vacation and more of a choose-you-own-adventure novel. The road ahead remains uncertain, and the only way home is to keep going forward.

Angela and I will celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary in October 2018, and, less than a month after that, I will turn fifty. While I’m typically not inclined to make a big deal out of a milestone, this year seems different. As if all adventures to this point were merely practice for something greater — an adventure from which we may never return.

On our way back from Australia in 2016, I asked Angela where she wanted to go for our tenth anniversary. She threw out a few destinations on her short list, and I did the same, but everything seemed to fall short somehow. Then we hit upon the idea to circumnavigate the globe. Buy one-way tickets and ping pong ourselves all the way around the world.

We’ve been planning this for over a year now, and the list of destinations keeps growing and morphing as I find better routes or surprisingly cheap one-way tickets.

So, instead of a New Year’s resolution, this is more of a New Year’s reveal. And it’s one with which we will need your help, friends. If you have suggestions for any of the locations we plan to visit, or if you see that we are missing something special along the way, please let us know.
