Around five million people visit Key West, Florida, each year. They arrive by airplane, ferry, cruise ship, or via the overseas highway from Miami, and they’re all in for a tropical treat.
For the one-year anniversary of the show, we took The Daily Refresh (ABC television) on a 24-hour exploration of the Conch Republic. Watch the video, then check out links to our favorite historic sites, parks, restaurants, dive shops, and more below!

Nice touristy video, y’all. I remember Mallory Square as a quiet and much smaller segment of concrete and seawall, no benches. We perched on a low wall and sipped something cold while we and a couple of others willing to brave the summer sweltering evening heat watched a sailboat cross the streak of setting sun brilliance lying on the flat calm face of the Middle Ground beyond the channel. Long before the cruise ships, Mel Fisher’s museum, etc- when the reefs were healthy and fishy.
Isn’t it interesting to watch a place change over time? Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, sometimes just different. And as an observer, we become part of that history. So fascinating!
